CITY OF CALAPAN – A member of the News People’s Army (NPA) surrendered high powered firearms on Sunday morning at Brooke’s Point in Palawan province, according to a report from Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan police office.

Elmer Likbong, aka “Ka Jeboy,” surrendered at about 7:50 a.m. a cache of firearms after series of debriefing following his  surrender, said police.

Likbong turned over an Armscor 12 gauge shotgun, two M16 Elisco rifles, an aluminum short magazine, and a plastic long magazine.

The recovered firearms were initially kept and buried by Jose Maria Masong, aka “Ka Degret,” sometime in 2014.

The recovery was “made possible through a relentless intelligence operations and build up with our surrendered former rebel (Likbong) and intelligence counterparts,” said the report.

Police said the cache of firearms were found near a site of a previous encounter between the rebels and government in September 3 last year where top rebel leaders were killed.
